Wharfedale D330 Tower Speakers Pair

Trademarked Port System and Tweeter Combine with Two 5.25-Inch Kevlar Driver in Superb-Sounding Wharfedale D330 Tower Loudspeaker: Changes Scope of What's Possible at Its Price Point

Elevate your home listening experiences and save coin for more records with the Wharfedale D330 tower loudspeakers. Created to deliver immersive, accurate, and transparent sound for a cost that defeats long-held stereotypes associated with price-to-performance ratios, D330 plays with wowing clarity, depth, airiness, punch, and control. Plus, it offers flexible placement options a majority of floorstanders could never dream about. Need to put it close to a wall? Go for it, and worry not about sacrificing any of its audio prowess. One of the secrets behind its versatility owes to the trademarked P-EQ (Pressure Equalization) port system, which eradicates the turbulence of traditional ported designs and removes limits on placement. Indeed, the advantages offered by D330 are fast becoming legendary.

Fueled by drivers based off those employed in Wharfedale's more expensive Diamond 11 Series, D330 boasts a 5.25-inch woven Kevlar cone bass/mid driver, 5.25-inch Kevlar cone woofer, a super-long-throw voice-coil motor system complete with a custom-shaped one-piece pole plate fitted with a copper cap, and oversized ceramic magnets. Wharfedale's trademarked WFR (Wide Frequency Response) one-inch tweeter that incorporates its own cabinet – also stemming from developments in Diamond 11 Series – further ups the ante in fidelity. We're talking notes that properly decay, bass lines that remain taut and assertive, soundstages that extend far beyond the speaker boundaries, and images that pop. Indeed, prized audiophile traits – high-frequency responsiveness, emotional expressiveness, midrange definition, and instrumental separation – are no longer the exclusive parlance of four- and five-figure speakers.

No matter the type of music you throw at D330, it promises to captivate – and look good while doing so. Displaying soft, refined, contemporary aesthetics distinguished by radiused corners and a curved front baffle, D320 also has profiled 1.1-inch-thick front baffles that reduce diffraction reflections. Critically braced panels, fiber-lined walls, and a software-developed crossover with low-loss polypropylene capacitors and laminated core inductors further D320's smooth, seamless, and resonance-defeating coherency. Your risk-free, 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed, in-home audition awaits.

Advanced Bass and Midrange Drivers
For the bass/mid drivers, the latest generation of Wharfedale’s long-established woven Kevlar® cones are bonded to a super-lightweight surround made of hi-tech foamed polyether, delivering remarkable clarity, texture. and musical expression. These cones are driven by a super-long-throw voice coil motor system, enabling low-frequency linearity and accuracy that is exceptional for such low-cost loudspeakers. The use of a specially shaped one-piece pole plate fitted with a copper cap reduces inductance and controls the magnetic flux, ensuring low distortion.

Trademarked WFR Treble Unit
Developed for the Diamond 11 Series and fine-tuned for the D300 range, Wharfedale’s WFR (Wide Frequency Response) tweeter incorporates its own cabinet – a precisely shaped rear chamber damped with a fiber filling. An over-sized ceramic magnet, selected to give a smoother transition from midrange to high frequencies, is attached to a pole piece with copper cap for flux control. The pole piece is vented through to the rear chamber to achieve a low resonant frequency, ensuring excellent linearity and allowing the textile dome, sited within a dished waveguide, to contribute to a wonderfully lucid midrange as well as smooth, pure, and richly defined high-frequency detail.

P-EQ Bass Reflex Port
Developed from the Slot-Loaded Distributed Port found in Diamond 11 Series, the D300 Series' P-EQ (Pressure Equalization) port system is critical to the speakers' deep and controlled bass performance. Low-bass frequencies emitted from the rear surface of the bass driver travel through a downward-firing port in the base of the speaker, with precisely curved openings to smooth airflow. These frequencies exit into the room omnidirectionally through a gap between the cabinet and the surface on which it rests (or, in the case of the D330, between cabinet and plinth), formed by four feet attached to the speaker's base. This reduces the pressure differential between the high pressure in the port and the low pressure in the room, thus eradicating the turbulence and audible 'chuffing' suffered by conventional ported systems whilst aiding bass reflex efficiency.

Custom Crossover and Cabinet Design
The output of the drive units is carefully combined by a thoroughly researched crossover developed using Wharfedale's Advanced Software and Listening Iteration system. Each crossover is carefully evaluated using a wide range of music, with the emphasis being on the lifelike reproduction of voices and instruments in addition to the dynamics of the musical performance. Crossover components feature low-loss polypropylene capacitors and laminated core inductors for optimum transfer of the music signal. The acoustically profiled cabinets feature 28mm-thick front baffles – a luxury, engineering touch to such low-cost speakers – profiled at the edges to reduce diffraction edge reflections at mid-to-high frequencies.

Critical bracing of the cabinet panels contributes to the eradication of audible resonance and, combined with the rounded cabinet edges, yields a rigid base on which to mount the drive units. In addition, the cabinet walls are lined with a specially developed internal fiber, chosen for its outstanding absorbent qualities across a wide bandwidth. You'll hear the drive unit output unsullied by unwanted colorations caused by panel vibration or internal resonances, revealing more of the detail of the musical performance.
