ABBA The Studio Albums on Limited Edition 180g Vinyl 8LP Box Set

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Swedish pop superstars winning the Eurovision Song Contest with "Waterloo," ABBA is issuing The Studio Albums, a comprehensive vinyl box set featuring the group’s eight, much-loved LPs housed in exact reproductions of the original artwork.

From the breakthrough exuberance of Ring Ring to the introspective maturity of The Visitors, the albums document a group achieving fame, reaching the very top, developing their sound and closing the book at exactly the right moment. Pressed on 180-gram heavyweight audiophile vinyl, all of the titles are housed in a rigid slipcase box.

Although viewed primarily as a singles band due to their nonstop run of hits like "Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” "Take A Chance On Me," “The Winner Takes It All,” “S.O.S.,” “Fernando,” “Voulez-Vous,” “Waterloo” and "The Name Of The Game," ABBA’s studio albums are also impeccably-crafted works of art that have grown steadily in reputation since their first release.

Ring Ring:

Ring Ring was the debut album released by the Swedish group on Polar records. It was not released worldwide but was a big hit in the territories that was released in, notably topping the charts in Belgium. The first song "People Need Love” was recorded in the spring of 1972, but it was only after the title track "Ring Ring” became a hit, that the four decide to go on working together as a permanent group.

Waterloo:

Waterloo was the second studio album that the group released. The title track “Waterloo” won Sweden the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. “Waterloo” peaked at the top of the charts in Sweden and Norway, but charted highly in many other countries too. The first track to refer to the group as ABBA solely, rather than "Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Anni-Frid" previously used, was “Honey, Honey.”

ABBA:

Originally released on 21 April 1975, ABBA saw the band beginning to gain global recognition in the pop music scene. "SOS" (released in June 1975) and "Mamma Mia" (released in August 1975) became hits in both the United States and the United Kingdom, and went on to become two of the bands most famous hits.

Arrival:

Polar Music originally released Arrival on October 11, 1976, but was not released on CD until 1984. The album contains three of the group's biggest hits, "Dancing Queen", "Money, Money, Money" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You." The album spent 79 consecutive weeks in the Top 40 between November 27th 1976 and May 9th 1978 in the UK and was certified Gold by the RIAA in April 1977.

The Album:

The release of ABBA – The Album coincided with the cinematic release of ABBA – The Movie in 1977. At the height of the group’s popularity, their fifth album featured perennial ABBA classics "Take A Chance On Me," "The Name Of The Game" and "Thank You For The Music," which also featured the pioneering use of promotional videos years before the advent of MTV. The album topped the UK charts in 1978.

Voulez-Vous:

Voulez-Vous (meaning “Do You Want” in French) was released in 1979 and sold more than 400,000 copies worldwide within the first week of release. The album spent 25 consecutive weeks in the Top 40 from May 19th 1979 to November 3rd 1979 but was rather outdone by the group’s second greatest hits album during the Christmas period, which went straight in at No.1.

Super Trouper:

Super Trouper was the 6th chart topping album to be released by the group claiming the title of the highest selling album of 1980. The previous year's divorce between Björn and Agnetha was inspiration for the hit "The Winner Takes It All", whilst other hits came from "Super Trouper” and “Lay All Your Love On Me” all of which topped the charts individually.

The Visitors:

The final studio album to be made by the group was The Visitors released on November 30th 1981. The major hit single on the album, "One of Us” also depicted the end of a love story, this time the divorce of Benny and Frida. The Visitors album was one of the first records to be recorded and mixed digitally, and was the first in history to be manufactured on the new CD format in 1982.
