Dan Hartman's multi-instrumental prowess was first discovered on a 1971 demo tape submitted to Blue Sky Records President Steve Paul. Paul then introduced Hartman to Edgar Winter, who had just disbanded White Trash. The double platinum They Only Come Out at Night was the end product of Dan and Edgar's first collaboration, featuring Dan playing bass, guitar, keyboards and singing lead on the hit single, "Free Ride." Hartman also co-wrote half of the album's songs.
After three more years with Winter - which saw the gold album Shock Treatment and The Edgar Winter Group with Rick Derringer - Hartman left the band and devoted himself to creating his own music. 1976's Images was his first solo outing followed by the co-production and engineering of Edgar Winter's solo LP Jasmine Nightdreams and the production of Foghat's gold certified Nightshift.
In 1978, sensing the rock scene had grown increasingly uninspired, Dan decided to experiment with a more pop/dance sound. He wrote, sang and produced the #1 gold single "Instant Replay," included on the album of the same name. Featuring an impressive line-up of Hartman, Vinnie Vincent (Kiss), G.E. Smith (Bob Dylan) and former bandmate Edgar Winter, the 6-track classic is also home to the follow-up charting single "Countdown/This Is It" plus additional standouts like "Double-O-Love" and "Time And Space." Limited edition colored 180g vinyl mastered by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios and pressed at RTI.
