On this, her 9th album, Mary Black has gone back to her roots with a more acoustic-based set than on her previous album Shine. In addition to the incredibly beautiful title track by Ron Sexsmith are wonderful songs like "Moments," "Cut By Wire" and a great cover of "Fields Of Gold." Besides its more slow-paced songs, the album also contains the more up-tempo numbers "Message of Love" and "Big Trip To Portland." Speaking With The Angel is certainly one of Mary Black's best albums featuring a delicate balance of material performed as only she can.
