The Allman Brothers Band Fillmore West 1-31-71 Vinyl 2LP

Available for the first time on vinyl, this 2LP set is culled from the critically acclaimed Fillmore West '71 4CD box set. Prepared from reel-to-reel soundboard masters, Fillmore West 1-31-71 presents the Allman Brothers Band in high gear.

Whereas “At Fillmore East” showcases highlights from several Allman Brothers shows recorded during March of ’71 at Bill Graham’s New York City venue, “Fillmore West ’71″ contains three full performances from Jan. 29 to 31, 1971, at Graham’s sister concert hall in San Francisco, plus a “bonus track” of “Mountain” from a 1970 New Orleans show clocking in at 45 minutes.

While the sound quality at times borderlines on good bootleg quality, “Fillmore West ’71” should be a welcome addition to Allman Brothers fans, especially ones interested in soaking up the output of the original lineup: Duane Allman (guitar), Gregg Allman (vocals, keyboard), Sarasota County resident Dickey Betts (guitar), Jaimoe (drums), Berry Oakley (bass, vocals) and Butch Trucks (drums).

In 1971, there’s wasn’t a rock band on the planet offering a synthesis of rock, blues, jazz and country quite like the Allman Brothers’. Touring in support of their second studio album, “Idlewild South,” the band had perfected a killer live show consisting of epic originals and innovative covers, all given to fresh improvisation on a nightly basis.
