John Mayer followed up his Grammy-winning 2001 debut Room for Squares and hit single "Your Body Is a Wonderland" with the Jack Joseph Puig-produced Heavier Things in 2003. Debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, Heavier Things is a more sophisticated record than its predecessor in every way with deeper songwriting and ambitious pop-jazz arrangements.
 
The album legitimized Mayer's talent and set the tone for the rest of his career, yielding a trio of successful singles with "Bigger Than My Body," "Clarity" and "Daughters," the latter serving as the blossoming singer/songwriter's first No. 1 single as well as 2005 Grammy winner for Song of the Year.
