Pro-Ject founder Heinz Lichtenegger's obsession with transparency and intelligent design can be seen in RPM 3's ultra-precision outboard 15V AC motor. The unit's placement prevents mechanical resonances from interfering with the 'table and ensures smooth, effortless playback.
At the factory, a complicated 1500-psi heat-treatment process was employed to strengthen the tonearm's rigidity, thereby increasing RPM 3's compatibility with a vast array of moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges. Its low-resonance chassis, heavy MDF/vinyl layered platter, and ceramic ball used in conjunction with its inverted platter bearing further reduce the noise and mechanical rumble that plague many rigs in its cost class.
