Rammstein's eponymous seventh album marks the German industrial outfit's first studio effort since 2009's Liebe Ist Für Alle Da. Produced by Olsen Involtini along with the band, the long awaited 11-track collection is ushered in by controversial lead single and album opener "Deutschland," which serves as the group's first single in eight years and features the chorus "Germany – my heart in flames, Want to love and condemn you/Germany – your breath cold, So young, and yet so old."
 
Talking with Metal Hammer, guitarist Richard Kruspe discussed how the new album came to be: "We were talking about harmonies, how certain kinds of melodies can change things.
 
Things we never really cared about in the beginning, but things that matter more now. It's more interesting for me as a musician to see how the vocals fit into a song, and which melody fits in that."
 
In another recent interview with Metal Wani, Krupse also talked about the motivation behind the new record: "Every time people talk Rammstein, it's about fire, it's all about the show. Nobody talks about the music anymore for Rammstein and it kind of bothered me. I was thinking, ‘I want to do another record. It has to be musical in a way that can really stand out from other records'. That was my goal, or our goal."
